Survey the Location 

While at the appointment with the potential location, sit down with the contact person to gather useful information.  Begin filling out a location survey form.  Make notes and get a feeling for the type of equipment needed, along with options, vend prices, current vending operator information, and other important information to remember and use when writing a proposal.  Here are important location fact findings: 

·   Number of employees 

·   Walk-thru traffic 

·   Type of business 

·   Hours of operation 

·   Current vending company 

·   Currently under contract 

·   Frequency of service 

·   Seasonal business 

·   Number of shifts 

·   Scheduled breaks and meals 

·   Outside food service 

·   Percent of commission 

·   Current vendor satisfaction 

Two important things to do: 

1. Ask what they would like to see for improvements in their vending.  They are the ones who will be using the machines.
2. Ask for the business!  Stress the improvements that you would be adding to their break-room, reiterate that there is no cost to them, and then ask them when they would like to take advantage of this great deal and have the machines installed.
