Glossary 

 

 Auger - The spiral in a snack vending machine that delivers the product. 

 

 Automatic Merchandiser - A different way of saying vending machine. 

 

 Bank - Two or more vending machines that are lined up side by side.  

 

 Bean To Cup - Means that the grinding coffee beans process occurs at the same vend cycle of the delivery of coffee to the consumer. 

 

 B.I.B. - Bag in Box is a term used to deliver cold drink in a cup. 

 

 Bulk Operator - A vending machine operator that specializes in gumball vending machines. 

 

 C.A.M.A. - Canada Automatic Merchandising Association. 

 

 CB300 - A model type of a small vending machine. 

  

 CB500 - A model type of a midsize vending machine. 

  

 CB700 - A model type of a large vending machine. 

 

 Changer - A free standing machine that gives coin change. 

 

 Client - A client can be two things, it could be the location in which a vending operator services or it could be the corporate entity of the location. 

 

 Coin Cup - The cup in a vending machine in which change drops into for the consumer to retrieve. 

 

 Coin Mech. - The mechanism in which coins pass through and are accounted for. 

 

 Coin Return - A button on a vending machine that returns change back to the customer. 

 

 Cold Drink Machine - A type of vending machine that dispenses primarily cold drink or bottle. 

 

 Confections - Another term that vending operators use to describe their candy selections. 

 

 Combo Vend - When more than one selection of dispensing takes place.  

 

 Configuration - This term is used to identify the auger planogram. 

 

 Controller - A regulating mechanism, as in a vehicle or electric device. 

 

 Couponing - A term used when using a coupon to discount a product.  This could also refer to a free purchase. 

 

 CSA - Canadian Standards Association.  A testing laboratory which is equivalent to the United States U.L. (Underwriters Laboratory) 

 

 Delivery Box - The box in a vending machine in which the products are dispensed. 

 

 DEX - A term used for route delivery/store direct data exchange. 

  

 Dispense - To prepare and give out. 

 

 Dual Zone - This term is used to identify two different temperature ranges in one vending machine. 

 

 Escrow - A term used in the vending industry which refers to the dollar bill acceptor, when the dollar bill is in a position that could return the dollar bill back to the consumer.  

 

 EVA - Abbreviation of European Vending Association. 

 

 FIFO - First In First Out. 

 

 Flash - A type of a format of data. 

 

 Flexible Tray - The tray in the vending machine can be configured multiple ways. 

 

 Free Standing - A single vending machine installation, distinguished from a bank. 

 

 Free Vend - A vending machine adjusted to vend a product at no charge. 

 

 Full Line - A bank of vending machines that offer snack, cold drink, coffee, and food. 

  

 Glass Fronts - A type of vending machine that dispenses primarily snack and candy. 

 

 Health Safety - This term means that the temperature within the vending machine meets health and safety requirements. 

 

 High Capacity Tray - The tray in the vending machine is designed to increase capacity. 

 

 Hopper - This is an extension in which operators fill with coins. 

 

 HR23 - A model type of a small vending machine. 

 

 HR32 - A model type of a medium vending machine. 

 

 HR40 - A model type of a large vending machine. 

 

 I.V.A. - Abbreviation of Independent Vendors Association. 

  

 IVEND - Trademark term for a sensing delivery of product. 

 

 Liftgate - A piece of equipment used on trucks to move large items from the back of the truck to ground level.  Mainly used where there is not a dock. 

  

 Location - Where the vending machine is placed. 

 

 Locator - A term that is used to identify a person who finds locations for vending machine operators. 

 

 Manual Vending Machine - A vending machine that operates mechanically. 

 

 MDB - Abbreviation of Multi-Drop-Bus. 

 

 N.A.M.A. - National Automatic Merchandising Association. 

 

 O.E.M. - A term that refers to manufacturer of the product. 

 

 O.O.O. - Out of Order. 

 

 Pastry - Baked sweet food. 

 

 P.B.S. - Abbreviation of Perfect Break Systems. 

 

 Planogram - In order to maximize sales and increase profitability, many vending operators have begun using planograms.  Planograms may be based on what type of location, but they specify which products will be put into a machine and in what row/column. 

 

 POP - Abbreviation for the term Point of Purchase. 

 

 Public Vending - A term used to identify the traffic pattern in which the vending machine is located. 

 

 Route - Multiple locations of vending machines that are serviced by one vending operator. 

 

 Satellite - A type of vending machine that relies on another vending machine with a controller and coinage. 

 

 Single Zone - This term is used to identify single temperature ranges in one vending machine. 

 

 SM5700 - A model type of a large vending machine. 

 

 Snack Machine - A type of vending machine. 

 

 Space To Sales - A vending machine that dispenses primarily snack and candy. 

 

 T-Handle - A term that is used to describe the door handle on a vending machine. 

  

 Telemetry - The transferal of data from vending machines to a database. 

 

 U.S.I. - Abbreviation of U-Select-It. 

  

 UL - Underwriters Laboratory. 

 

 V.C.I. - Abbreviation of Vending Concepts, Inc. 

  

 Validator - The mechanism in which paper currency is collected and accounted. 

 

 Vendible Packaging - Refers to the package on the product that can be used in a vending machine. 

 

 Vending - To sell by means of vending machines. 

 

 Vending Machine - A coin operated machine that dispenses merchandise.
