Disclaimer

This automated dispensing equipment is equipped with an Ultraviolet-C (UVC) device that directs UVC light onto the keypad surface when the keypad is not in use, killing or inactivating bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants that might otherwise be passed on to the user of the keypad.

When used properly, UVC light is a proven, safe, and effective sanitization method that kills or inactivates many common viruses and bacteria including, but not limited to influenza viruses, E.Coli bacteria and others.  To learn more about the efficacy of UVC light disinfection of some common environmental pathogens, please see the following studies www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov and pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

UVC radiation is a known sanitization method for air, water, and nonporous surfaces. UVC radiation has effectively been used for decades to reduce the spread of bacteria, such as tuberculosis. UVC radiation has been shown to destroy the outer protein coating of the SARS-Coronavirus, which is a different virus from the current SARS-CoV-2 virus. The destruction ultimately leads to inactivation of the virus. (see Far-UVC light (222 nm) efficiently and safely inactivates airborne human coronaviruses).

UVC radiation may also be effective in inactivating the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is the virus that causes the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, currently there is limited published data about the wavelength, dose, and duration of UVC radiation required to inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus. UVC radiation can only inactivate a virus if the virus is directly exposed to the radiation. Therefore, the inactivation of viruses on surfaces may not be effective due to blocking of the UV radiation by soil, such as dust, or other contaminants such as bodily fluids.

Sanitization effectiveness by UVC light may vary due to environmental factors. All references to “sanitization” and “sanitize” are referring generally to the reduction of pathogenic bioburden and are not intended to refer to any specific definition of the term as may be used for other purposes by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  No public health claims are meant or implied by The Wittern Group or any of its affiliates or representatives.

Our UV light sanitization device is tested versus untreated controls to evaluate efficacy in controlling microorganisms. These studies are for our own product evaluations and are not public health claims. Our data must not be used to make claims or implied health benefits.

This machine includes a UVC lamp and bulb, located above the keypad and the delivery door, a screen that ensures the UVC light is directed down and toward the keypad away from the user, and a motion sensor designed to shut off the UVC lamp when a potential user approaches the machine. The screen and the motion sensor are integral components that allow the UVC system to be operated safely and effectively, and the UVC device should never be used without these components.

The UVC system is solely intended for use as designed and installed on the machine. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE, MODIFY, OR REPAIR THE UVC DEVICE, OR CHANGE THE PROTECTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION OF THE UVC DEVICE WHICH ARE BUILT INTO THE EQUIPMENT. Doing so may impair the safe operation of the equipment and could cause health and other risks to users or operators of the equipment. (See “Risks,” below) If the UVC lamp, the bulb, the screen, or the motion sensor are or appear to be modified, damaged, inoperable, or missing, do not attempt to use the machine, and notify the operator or your manager immediately.

The UVC device is not intended as a substitute for good personal hygiene, such as regular and thorough hand-washing and mask-wearing, particularly during a pandemic.

Risks: UVC lamps used for sanitization purposes may pose potential health and safety risks depending on the UVC wavelength, dose, and duration of radiation exposure. We strongly advise you to read on the possible harmful effects of the use of UVC products. If you have questions about your use the UVC products, please review the labeling appearing on the automated dispensing machine. Be reminded that the UVC products are not designed to be used on the skin, the eyes and any part of the body, among others. Inappropriate and improper use of the UVC products could be dangerous and harmful.

Always be reminded that the products must be used with caution and in accordance with the proper use as indicated in the instructions and / or manuals which come together with the purchased products. The risk may increase if the unit is not installed properly or used by untrained individuals.

  • Direct exposure of skin and eyes to UVC radiation from some UVC lamps may cause painful eye injury and burn-like skin reactions. Never look directly at a UVC lamp source, even briefly.
  • UVC can degrade certain materials, such as plastic, polymers, and dyed textile.
  • Some UVC lamps generate ozone.  Ozone inhalation can be irritating to the airway.
  • Some UVC lamps contain mercury.  Because mercury is toxic even in small amounts, extreme caution is needed in cleaning a lamp that has broken and in disposing of the lamp.

COVID-19 is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation.
