Patent for Crispy Bread Snack from Frito-Lay

Frito-Lay, manufacturers of a variety of vending machine staples such as potato chips, crackers, pretzels and much more, has recently filed a patent for crisp bread snacks that use traditional dough recipes. Frito-Lay, whose sales of its products in 2009 comprised 40% of all “savory snacks” sold in the United States, has developed a new method that would make traditional bread recipes such as Swedish oat bread, Middle Eastern Challah bread, and Torta bread from Spain into crispy bread chip snacks.

The main processes proposed in this patent are aimed to reduce the traditional problems that make bread difficult to turn into a snack. Reducing the baking time and preparation time, reducing moisture and standardizing baking processes. In addition, additions to the traditional recipes have been made to improve the nutritional qualities of these new snacks.

The final products will have a crispy texture due to the baking process that vaporizes water in the dough. The reduced moisture content will help improve the shelf-life of these crispy bread chip snacks. Vending.com can see these snacks hitting vending machines as a new alternative to potato chips, especially for customers looking for a baked alternative.

There has not yet been a review of the taste of these new snacks, but with the variety of bread recipes being used by Frito-Lay, there will undoubtedly be a flavor for everyone.

Colbert Report Vending Machine

For comedic news anchor, Stephen Colbert, conducting interviews is nothing new. During a recent show, things took an unfortunate twist when Stephen suddenly needed a snack and took a trip to the studio’s vending machine. While deciding on what to purchase, Stephen became angry and frustrated with the machine and started shaking it and rocking the machine back and forth. He was promptly trapped beneath the fallen vending machine and had to call for help; but only help from a celebrity.

Luckily for Colbert, Hollywood star Matt Damon was taking a stroll through the studio and attempted to help Colbert get out from under the vending machine. While he had Matt Damon around though, Colbert decided to take the opportunity to ask Matt about what he had been up to and his new upcoming movie.

The video is very entertaining and an excellent promotion for Matt Damon’s upcoming film. It is also a good reminder not to rock or climb on vending machines! There will not always be a famous celebrity around to help you out (or sit on the machine you are trapped under while you interview them.) Vending.com wants you to stay safe, enjoy a delicious snack or beverage from a vending machine and meet a celebrity under circumstances that don’t involve being trapped under anything heavy.

Diet Coke Reveals World’s Most Slim & Skinny Vending Machine

Vending.comWe all know that, in general, vending machines for sale are getting leaner in terms of caloric content, but what about the actual size and shape of the product? While Coca-Cola has been promoting slim sodas with their Diet Coke brand for decades, they are now taking a more literal approach with their brand-new skinny drink vending machine.

Appropriately dubbed “The Slender Vender,” this ultra-slim Coke soda vending machine has been popping up in a variety of locations around the United States. A vending product this small was sure to get big reactions, and Coca-Cola was wise enough to capture some of the best ones in the YouTube video below:

The clip not only spotlights the construction of this one-of-a-kind Coke soda machine, it also shows the versatility of a truly slim vending machine. The “Slender Vender” can be seen hiding between larger vending machines, standing amongst treadmills at a gym, and in-between bowling lanes at an alley. It’s certainly a smart way to market the calorie-conscious Diet Coke product, and is unique enough to make many stop in their tracks and grab a cola. In an age where vending machines seem to always aim bigger, it will be interesting to see if the “Slender Vender” encourages vending machine manufacturers to create smaller, more versatile devices.

Luxury Gift Vending Machine

A vending machine in Berlin is offering a range of items that you might not find in your traditional vending machines. The vending machine was launched by German delicatessen Floris Feinkost and features gourmet selections including luxury items such as prepared food and gift packages.

This luxury vending machine has gifts that anyone would want to receive including pint-sized bottles of champagne, pastries, pralines, flavored salts, chocolates and even bottles of wines. These are just a few of the more than 60 products customers can browse through.

The unit has ten levels of display cases that showcase the wares. Vending.com has seen vending operators benefit from improved displays of vending products through updated machines, captivating graphics on the machine, and well-lit and organized product displays. In this particular luxury vending machine, the gift cases look like miniature storefront displays, with products perfectly packaged and displayed.

Break Room Vending Machines

When you have worked in an office for any amount of time that has a break room, it is easy to notice how odd and often gross, they can be. The reason for these oddities is often food brought in by coworkers.

Storing perishable food can often become a challenge as expiration dates become lost in the well-lit abyss that is the back of the communal refrigerator. Once good ideas for lunch may sit, left and forgotten, on tables or in communal microwaves for days on end and pots of coffee made with the best intentions can become caffeinated science projects gone wrong.

An easy way to avoid these break room horrors is with vending machines! Vending.com has a wide variety of vending machines specifically for office break rooms that include, food, snack, drink, coffee, water and more. Break room vending machines are not just for grabbing a candy bar or can of soda anymore; many of our machines can vend enough fresh food to keep employees happy and well-fed every day.

Depending on how your office decides to operate the vending machines at work, profits from them can be donated to charity, reinvested back into the office or a variety of other options that will help out more than your break room’s hygiene!

3 Ways to Find the Perfect Vending Location

Whether you are new to the vending business or a veteran, you are likely open to suggestions on how to make your business more profitable. Since a huge part of a vending businesses success is the result of the machine’s location, learning where to put your vending machine is crucial. Read below for three tips from Vending.com on how to do just that:

Go where the people are:
As a vending machine owner, you want to find locations to put your vending machines where there is a great deal of foot traffic. Examples of such places include airports, malls or busy offices. It only stands to reason that the more people who walk by your machines each day, the better your sales will be.

Be the focus:
Although it is wise to put your vending machine where there is lots of foot traffic as listed above, you can also find success when placing your machine in a more subdued environment. Your machine will often times become a source of entertainment when people are bored. Great examples of these locations that are less busy yet highly profitable include doctors’ offices, nail salons, car repair centers or barber shops.

Don’t avoid competition:
Some vending machine owners do not want to place their machines near other peoples’ machines. However, that can be a mistake. If you place a well-stocked, attractive vending machine next to a machine that is poorly maintained or rarely stocked, you will end up doing well even with competition present.

By incorporating the three tips listed above and remembering to match the type of vending machine with your clientele, you can ensure you are placing your machine in the most profitable location possible. After all, just as in real estate, location, location, location is the means to success in the vending business.

Keep Your Employees Satisfied When Your Workplace Reopens

With many Americans returning from work after months of working from home, it is necessary that you keep your employees focused while working in the office. One way of doing this is by providing them with the necessary snacks they need to keep productivity up and keep your employees from leaving the office in search of a snack.

According to Vending MarketWatch, American snack food consumption increased by 8% during the COVID-19 pandemic. People are turning to snacking on their favorite foods to help cope with stress due to financial and health concerns. Additionally, 37% of consumers wanted to make sure that they had sufficient snacks on hand while following stay-at-home orders.

What do these numbers mean for your employees? While more employees are returning from work, it is crucial you keep them full and focused in order for productivity to remain high. Giving your employees the snacks they crave through a snack machine, such as the MarketOne Snack Machines, will be important.

Many snack companies, such as Mondele?z International, Frito-Lay and PepsiCo found snack sales increase during the height of stay-at-home orders. Having sweet snacks in your vending machines, such as cookies and chocolate, could help satisfy your employees when they start to crave a snack.

Providing healthy, protein-packed snacks is also important in order to keep your employees more full for a longer period of time. For example, Jack Link’s® has a variety of high-protein snacks and meal replacement for employees to enjoy on the go and during the workday. It is also the perfect option for those employees who crave a salty option, as opposed to a sweet option.

Having a reliable vending machine to dispense these products will be crucial to your employees. MarketOne Snack Machines give your employees maximum product selections. Through its large merchandising window and enhanced LED lighting, products are displayed to their fullest ability. Additionally, it is ADA compliant and features an ergonomic interface, making it easy for your employees to use.

As employees begin returning to the workplace, welcome them back with the snacks they grew to love during the COVID-19 pandemic. Keep them full and focused in order to keep productivity high. For additional information, please call Vending.com at 1-800-548-1982.

Healthy Vending for Your Customers

No matter where your vending equipment is placed, it is essential that you keep your customers satisfied with healthy to-go snacks and food. Thanks to the National Automatic Merchandising Association’s (NAMA) commitment to a healthier lifestyle, vending machines nationwide will be increasing their healthy food options from 24% to 33% over the next three years.

In order for a snack to be considered “healthy,” they must abide by the following standards per serving:

  • No more than 200 calories
  • No more than 240 milligrams of sodium
  • No more than 1 gram of saturated fat
  • No more than 0 grams of trans fat

To ensure you are providing customers with the absolute best to-go snacks and food to keep them healthy, we have compiled a list to help get you started.

Popcorn

As a natural, whole grain food, popcorn is a great, healthy to-go snack food that your customers will love. It contains fiber, magnesium and iron, just to name a few nutrients. Having a high-fiber diet can lead to weight loss, increased heart health and reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes. In order for your customers to fully take advantage of these health benefits, it is best to provide them with plain popcorn that is free of any chemicals.

Granola Bars

Granola bars are a healthy and delicious to-go snack food that is filled with protein, fiber and micronutrients to keep your customers fueled throughout the day. Granola bars reduce the risk of overeating, as they come in pre-portioned packages. Additionally, they have been found to reduce cholesterol and lower the risk of heart disease. In order to ensure you are providing healthy products, find granola bars that are less than 250 calories, and have less than 10 grams of sugar.

Plant-Based Protein

Protein is an essential part of one’s diet. Protein is used to build and repair tissues. It is also the building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. In order to give your customers, especially your vegetarian and vegan customers, the protein they need, consider adding plant-based protein into your machines. Some examples of this include Greek yogurt, almonds and peanut butter.

All of these healthy to-go snack foods can be provided within our wide range of snack machines, including our MarketOne Vending Machines. Our fully adjustable trays allow you to provide small snacks, such as granola bars, or bulky snacks, such as Greek yogurt. Plus, with a 10.1” touchscreen display, your customers can have immediate access to nutritional facts, prior to purchasing snacks.

Healthy eating does not have to be boring. Change up the products you supply your customers with delicious and healthy products to promote a healthier lifestyle. For more information, give us a call at 1-800-548-1982.
